Below we have outlined changes and additions or deletions to our policy handbook since the November 20, 2025 Edition. All of the changes in the document are policy amendments or other association document amendments which were approved at the January 28, 2026 Board of Directors Meeting, or appendix changes approved by the Executive Director. All Policy changes contained within this edition of the member handbook will come into effect February 1, 2026.
The Board has made amendments to the following policies:
• Cannabis CBD and other Cannabis Products Policy
o Updated language in item 7.
• Discipline for Complaints Policy
o This policy has undergone a complete re-write. We encourage all members to have a read through the document to make yourselves aware of the complaints process for the Association.
• Discipline for Non-Compliance Regarding Current Vulnerable Sector Check Policy
o Updated items 4 and 5 removing classes of membership which do not require annual VSC in Nova Scotia. Also provided updated language in item 9 to address the same issue.
• Establishment of a Disciplinary Committee Policy
o Increased the minimum and maximum number of committee members in item 1.
o Makes the appointment to the committee a one year term and updates the language regarding continuance when involved in a complaint at the end of the term if not renewing their appointment in item 6.a.i.
o Removes term limits and clarifies that committee members may serve consecutive terms without limit in 6.b.i.
• Fee Schedule Policy
o Added Mediation Fee to the Schedule
o Changed the name of the Disciplinary Hearing Fee to Discipline Hearing Fee to match the change in the policy.
• Massage Therapist Receipting for Services and or Products Policy
o Added clarification to Item 4.b. regarding Student Massage Therapists and Associate Members prohibition from practicing in a Regular Province and the only exception to that prohibition.
o Added Item 16 regarding the content of a receipt issued by a student therapist member.
o Added Item 17 to clarify that a student therapist member may not issue a receipt in a regulated province.
• Membership Requirement – Other Association Membership Policy
o Removed the language in items 2 and 3 which restricted student members who had obtained insurance through the Association broker from having membership with other Associations while still a student member.
o Corrected the mistake where the word affect was used where effect should have been used.
o Added reference to a definition in items 8 and 9
• Membership Requirement – Vulnerable Sector Check Policy
o Removed reference to Nova Scotia therapists in 2.1.
o Added Nova Scotia therapists in 2.2. to make it easier for therapists to understand the requirements.
o Also updated Language in Item 3.1., 3.2., and 3.3. regarding Nova Scotia requirements.
The Board has made amendments to the following association documents:
• Code of Ethics
o Updated CMMOTA’s Mission statement.
• CMMOTA Massage Therapist Scope of Practice
o Updated Definition in the Preface
o Changed Item 1 under Summary of Restricted Activities from Prescribing/administering medications to Prescribe and/or administer prescription drugs or anesthetics. This change allows for the use of active ingredients in massage mediums.
o Added Item 6 “Labour induction” to the list of restricted activities.
o In Section 1 Added items 7 and 8 to the list of reasons that the Massage Therapist may refuse or terminate treatment.
o In Section 4 added item 13 under restricted activities
• CMMOTA Scope of Practice for Manual Osteopathic Therapists
o Updated the purpose statement to reflect the current status of MOT in Canada.
o Added a Summary of Restricted Activities
o Added Clarification to Item 1 of Restricted Activities located in Section 1
o Added Termination or Refusal of Treatment to Section 1
o Added item 11 under Restricted Activities in Section 2
• CMMOTA Spa Therapist Scope of Practice
o Changed Item 1 under Summary of Restricted Activities from Prescribing/administering medications to Prescribe and/or administer prescription drugs or anesthetics. This change allows for the use of active ingredients in massage mediums.
o Added Item 6 “Labour induction” to the list of restricted activities.
o Added clarification to Items 14 and 15 of the list of restricted activities.

The Executive Director has adopted these new appendices or made amendments to the following appendices:
• Appendix 1 – Board of Directors Nomination Form
o Updated to reflect the Association’s new Mission and Vision Statements
• Appendix 5 – Disciplinary Committee Application Form
o Updated to reflect the Association’s new Mission and Vision Statements
o Updated to reflect the changes in the Establishment of Disciplinary Committee Policy and the Discipline for Complaints Policy.
• Appendix 15 – Massage Therapy Membership Reinstatement Application
o Updated PIPA language and Reinstatement Application Disclosure language.
• Appendix 16 – Manual Osteopathic Membership Reinstatement Application
o Updated PIPA language and Reinstatement Application Disclosure language.
• Appendix 19 – Modalities List for Massage Therapists
o Changed the number of core modalities from 10 to 11.
o Changed the reference to manual osteopathic therapists to manual osteopathic therapy in the first paragraph
o Added Fascia Stretch Therapy, Pilates (one-on-one instruction), Qi-Gong (one-on-one instruction), and Tai Chi (one-on-one instruction) to Section 4.
o Added Section 5 – Services/Modalities Outside of Scope
o Revised Section 6 – Regarding Manual Osteopathic Therapy Training to provide greater simplicity and clarity.
• Appendix 24 – Event Volunteer Participation Form
o Updated the CEC numbers to reflect the current policy.
• Appendix 34 – Modalities List for Manual Osteopathic Therapists
o Added Fascia Stretch Therapy, Pilates (one-on-one instruction), Qi-Gong (one-on-one instruction), and Tai Chi (one-on-one instruction) to Section 3.
o Added Section 4 – Services/Modalities Outside of Scope
o Revised Section 5 – Regarding Massage Therapy Training to provide greater simplicity and clarity.
• Appendix 42 – Modalities List for Spa Therapists
o Revised the first paragraph clarifying that this appendix is not for those practicing massage therapy in an unregulated province and changing “Manual Osteopathic Therapist” to manual osteopathic therapy.
o Added Fascia Stretch Therapy, Qi-Gong, and Tai Chi to Section 2
o Added Section 3 – Services/Modalities Outside of Scope
o Revised Section 4 – Regarding Manual Osteopathic Therapy Training to provide greater simplicity and clarity.
