We currently have members that practice in all provinces and territories throughout Canada.
Our members enjoy the freedom of traveling and working within non regulated provinces throughout Canada without a change to their membership class. This removes the hassle of joining new associations in each province.
Your profession liability and malpractice insurance policy provided through the association covers you to work in all provinces and territories except Quebec, including regulated provinces such as Ontario and British Columbia. All you need to do is to inform the Association of your move BEFORE it happens so that we can update your information with the insurance broker.
If you are planning on moving to a regulated province you would need to make a choice between seeking registration with the regulatory college and changing your membership class to Registered Massage Therapist or practicing as a Spa Therapist member. Please note that the Spa Therapist option is not available within the provinces of New Brunswick or Newfoundland and Labrador, as the practice of massage therapy is a restricted activity exclusively for members of the regulatory colleges in these two jurisdictions.
If you choose to practice in a regulated province as a Spa Therapist, your clients cannot submit receipts for reimbursement. If you choose to register with the Regulated College, once registered your clients would be able to submit receipts for reimbursement as in regulated provinces, the insurance companies go off of the college registry for insurance reimbursement.
We do have many members practicing as Spa Therapists in regulated provinces, however they are required to abide by the rules associated with working in that environment (i.e. they cannot use protected titles such as Massage Therapist, Massage Practitioner, RMT, etc.). With that being said, we do have some members that are very successful working in regulated provinces as Spa Therapists. Current Full Massage Therapist members that move to a regulated province that are not members of the regulatory college would have their membership class changed to Spa Therapist as this title is not protected under any of the regulatory legislation
If you have more questions about any other changes that might be required when moving from one province or territory to another, please reach out to the Association directly via email to info@cmmota.com.
