WHEN: March 9, 2026 from 9:00 am – 12:00 pm MST through Zoom.

COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This 3 hour course breaks down the electrically excitable neuron into bite sized pieces, describing how they work in easy to understand terms and visuals. Then, it follows basic nerve pathways through the body, building the learner’s confidence in how nervous tissue fits inside the nervous system.  Once this is established, the function and intricacies of pain are explored, describing how and why gate control theory is still very prevalent in massage therapy education.  By the end of the course, the participants should have a better grasp on nervous tissue and the role of pain in the nervous system, which opens the door for a better understanding of how massage therapy modulates pain, which is covered in other educational opportunities.

About the Instructor:

Chelsea Spence, RMT, has been a practicing massage therapist since 2008, specializing in pain management, rattan massage, and cancer-specific treatments. Over 16 years at Saskatchewan’s first 2200-hour massage therapy school, she has experience from instructor to Director of Administration and Admissions and curriculum developer for all courses.
