We want to share some valuable resources that are provided free of charge by the Canadian Life and Health Insurance Association (CLHIA) surrounding Health Insurance Fraud, and things that you can incorporate into your practice, or when you are on the job hunt for a new professional opportunity, to help prevent Health Insurance Fraud.
The first resource is entitled How Healthcare Providers Can Protect Themselves from Identity Theft. This is a great resource that will give you tools to protect your professional identity.
The second resource is an entire website dedicated to healthcare fraud prevention and awareness – Fraud = Fraud Real Crime. This website provides different pages covering everything from defining benefits fraud, to providing a fraud reporting tool if you suspect fraudulent behaviour.

Another great resource is entitled Service and Supply Provider Receipt Best Practices for Group Benefit Reimbursement. This resource is a suggested list of best practices to be used by medical service and supply providers when invoicing clients. These best practices have been developed by member companies of the Canadian Life and Health Insurance Association (CLHIA) and are an important tool for you to use to help ensure your clients valid claims are paid promptly. They also assist in reducing fraudulent activities and delays resulting from incomplete information.
The final resource we are highlighting is the part of the Fraud=Fraud Real Crime. It is an overarching look at Health Benefits Fraud and includes a self quiz that will help you identify potential areas of weakness in your practice as it relates to health insurance fraud prevention.
