UPDATE COVID-19 March 22, 2020

CMMOTA COVID-19 Update March 22, 2020

British Columbia Members

In a news briefing given on March 21, 2020, British Columbia’s Provincial Health Officer, Dr. Bonnie Henry, ordered that all personal services businesses involving close physical contact, such as “massage parlors”, must close effective immediately.

Does this order apply to CMTBC registrants only? No, this applies to all practicing massage therapists in the province.

Dr. Henry clarified directly to CMTBC that her order applies to “RMTs working in the community”.  Effectively, that means all BC RMTs must immediately cease practice as of today, March 21, 2020. Any upcoming appointments must be cancelled, and no massage therapy treatment can be delivered until further notice.

RMTs are encouraged to communicate this order to any and all fellow registrants with whom they are in contact.

Saskatchewan Members

In an update given by the province on March 20, 2020, and in effective for March 23, 2020, the immediate Chief Medical Health Officer is updating the public health order under The Public Health Act to further reduce the risk of potential COVID-19 transmission in the province.  At the same time, Premier Scott Moe today (March 20, 2020) signed an order pursuant to the provincial State of Emergency directing that all orders of the government and Chief Medical Health Officer must be followed and that law enforcement agencies in Saskatchewan have the full authority to enforce those orders.

In particular for our members: the closure of dental, optometrist, chiropractic, registered massage therapy and podiatry clinics except for non-elective procedures, until further notice.

RMTs are encouraged to communicate this order to any and all fellow registrants with whom they are in contact.
