Every so often we get questions from concerned members about their information being listed on a random website. There are many different web page designers out there who mine data from places like the Yellow Pages, Facebook, Google Search, Instagram, X, and other sites in an attempt to bring traffic to their particular page.

While many times these sites have no harmful intent, there are times where unscrupulous individuals will add a therapist’s information to their “illicit massage” sites.

One way that you can be aware of and can combat this type of information sharing, if it is of concern to you, is to regularly do a search of yourself and/or the clinic that you work for on search engine sites like Google or Bing. This will help you see where you might be listed and may also give you an indication of how you and/or your place of business are being perceived in the online world. Should you find yourself on a site that you don’t wish to be listed on, it is always your right to ask them to remove your information from the site.

Another way to combat what is being shared is to take the time to establish a Google profile for yourself or your business – this will help what people are seeing about you when they do a search for therapists in your area, or for you in particular. While this is not for everyone, it is something that you may wish to consider.
