SUMMARY:Nervous Tissue and Pain
DESCRIPTION:WHEN: March 9\, 2026 from 9:00 am – 12:00 pm MST through Zoom. \nZoom link will be provided closer to the event. CMMOTA Members will earn 3 CEC’s for this course. \nCOURSE DESCRIPTION:\nThis 3 hour course breaks down the electrically excitable neuron into bite sized pieces\, describing how they work in easy to understand terms and visuals. Then\, it follows basic nerve pathways through the body\, building the learner’s confidence in how nervous tissue fits inside the nervous system.  Once this is established\, the function and intricacies of pain are explored\, describing how and why gate control theory is still very prevalent in massage therapy education.  By the end of the course\, the participants should have a better grasp on nervous tissue and the role of pain in the nervous system\, which opens the door for a better understanding of how massage therapy modulates pain\, which is covered in other educational opportunities. \nAbout the Instructor: \nChelsea Spence\, RMT\, has been a practicing massage therapist since 2008\, specializing in pain management\, rattan massage\, and cancer-specific treatments. Over 16 years at Saskatchewan’s first 2200-hour massage therapy school\, she has experience from instructor to Director of Administration and Admissions and curriculum developer for all courses. \nRefund Policy:\nFull refund 45 days prior to the event (less fees).\n50% refund 30 days prior to the event.\nNo refund 14 days prior to the event.

See below for payment plans options.  \nThis course is In Person. CMMOTA Members will earn 24 CEC’s for this course. LDT is the first technique that enables practitioners to detect and palpate the specific rhythm\, direction\, depth\, and quality of the lymph flow anywhere in the body. Skilled practitioners with developed listening skills can practice Manual Lymphatic Mapping (MLM) of the lymphatic vessels. \nLDT practitioners use their hands to assess and enhance overall circulation as well as determine the best alternate pathways for draining stagnant body fluid (lymph\, interstitial\, synovial fluid\, etc…). Therapists work with flat hands\, using all the fingers to simulate gentle\, specific wave-like movements. \nThese subtle manual maneuvers activate lymph and interstitial fluid circulation as well as stimulate the functioning of the immune and parasympathetic nervous systems. \nInstructor Bio \nRobin Devine\, RMT\, CLT\, LDT\, is a 2200 hour Massage Therapist who specializes in Lymphatic Drainage\, Lymphedema Therapy\, Relaxation & Therapeutic Massage\, Brain Therapy\, Brain Reflex Therapy\, and Craniosacral Therapy. \nRobin traveled to Thailand in 2005 and trained in Thai Massage techniques. She is currently only 1 of 10 therapists in the City of Calgary who have trained to the advanced level of Lymphatic Drainage as well as a Certified Lymphedema Therapist\, enjoying working with more complex cases of lymphatic instability.  She is a fully certified Complex Decongestive Therapist and Certified Lymphedema Therapy. \nThroughout her career\, she has worked in a massage therapy clinic\, chiropractic clinic\, as a mobile therapist in Calgary\, as well as working from home for many years. She has also been an assistant instructor for the Upledger Institute/Chikly Institute for the Lymphatic Drainage Therapy courses since 2008\, traveling all over North America and\, recently\, to Australia\, Singapore and Malaysia. She has taught with MH Vicars School of Massage Therapy in Calgary for 3 years for both their full  first and second year curriculums\, as well as with Mount Royal University teaching in their 2200 hour diploma program both in their classrooms and in their practicum clinic. Robin currently teaches Lymphatic Drainage Therapy and Lymphedema Therapy with the Chikly Health Institute\, across Canada\, in the United States\, and around the world. \n\nHotel Information \nWe have an open block at the Saskatoon Inn for hotel accommodations. SUMMARY:Consent as a Practice: Working with Grief
DESCRIPTION:WHEN: March 8\, 2027 from 9:00 am – 11:30 am MT through Zoom. \nZoom link will be provided closer to the event. CMMOTA Members will earn 2.5 CEC for this course. \nCOURSE OPTION: \n\nConsent as a Practice: Working with Grief \nGrief can change what a client needs from one massage to the next—and sometimes even from one minute to the next. \nIn this practical\, compassionate course\, we’ll explore how grief can affect choice\, communication\, boundaries\, and a client’s relationship with touch. You’ll learn ways to practice ongoing consent that support agency without asking a grieving client to make every decision for\nthemselves. \nWe’ll look at changing preferences\, decision fatigue\, emotional responses\, and those moments when a client says\, “I don’t know—you’re the professional.” And we’ll explore how to notice without assuming\, offer choice without overwhelming\, and respond when grief shows up as it\noften does—in unexpected ways. \nThese days\, most people are grieving the loss of someone and/or something they loved. Creating a practice of ongoing consent is an important way you can support them You don’t need to have all the answers. You just need a willingness to stay curious. \nNo previous grief-informed or consent training is required. \n\nTanya Thomlinson\, RMT \nOriginally from Winnipeg\, Tanya Thomlinson lives in beautiful Calgary\, Alberta. She holds two Bachelors degrees – in Psychology from the University of Manitoba\, and Economics from the University of Winnipeg. After a career working in both the non-profit and corporate worlds\, Tanya stepped away from paid work for several years to raise her family\, and then began her massage therapy studies in 2016. After working at a clinic for a few years\, she opened a home-based practice in 2021. Within the first year\, Tanya realized that most of her clients were people experiencing loss and grief\, who were using massage as a means of grief support. She felt called to work specifically with this population and niched her practice. With lived experience as a grieving person\, a caregiver\, and a grief support provider\, Tanya decided to build on that with a Certificate in Grief Education from the University of Toronto’s Ontario Institute for Studies in Education\, which she completed in 2023. Tanya is a regular volunteer with the Rejuvenation Program at Ronald McDonald House Calgary. Tanya enjoys keeping active and fit in various ways like walking\, strength training\, and dance. SUMMARY:Lymph Drainage Therapy (LDT1) - Inner Fluid Dynamics\, Chikly Health Institute - Edmonton\, AB
DESCRIPTION:WHEN: March 18-21\, 2027 from 9:00 am – 5:00 pm at Coast Nisku Inn & Conference Centre\, 1101 4 St\, Nisku\, AB. \nPrice does not include hotels or meals. See below for payment plans options.  \nThis course is In Person. CMMOTA Members will earn 24 CEC’s for this course. \nCOURSE OPTION: \nLymph Drainage Therapy is a cutting edge hands-on method of lymphatic drainage developed by Bruno Chikly\, MD\, DO\, LMT. \nIt was created out of his award-winning research on the lymphatic system consistent with recent scientific discoveries. \nLDT1 takes traditional lymph drainage techniques and adds a level of precision. While there\, she developed an intense desire to explore non-traditional forms of Massage Therapy\, and the vital importance of overall body wellness. Thanks to this insight\, Robin has built on her foundational training\, and has expanded her therapeutic tools to include Lymphatic Drainage Therapy\, Brain Therapy and Brain Reflex Therapy with the Chikly Health Institute\, as well as Craniosacral Therapy through the Upledger institute. \n\nHotel Information \nWe have Corporate rates at the following hotel. SUMMARY:Lymph Drainage Therapy (LDT1) - Inner Fluid Dynamics\, Chikly Health Institute - Red Deer
DESCRIPTION:WHEN: May 27-30\, 2027 from 9:00 am – 5:00 pm at Westerner Park\, 4847A 19 St\, Red Deer\, AB. \n\nHotel Information \nWe have group rates with the following hotel.
