CMMOTA Members will earn 24 CEC’s for this course. \nCOURSE OPTION: \nLymph Drainage Therapy is a cutting edge hands-on method of lymphatic drainage developed by Bruno Chikly\, MD\, DO\, LMT. \nIt was created out of his award-winning research on the lymphatic system consistent with recent scientific discoveries. \nLDT1 takes traditional lymph drainage techniques and adds a level of precision. LDT is the first technique that enables practitioners to detect and palpate the specific rhythm\, direction\, depth\, and quality of the lymph flow anywhere in the body. Skilled practitioners with developed listening skills can practice Manual Lymphatic Mapping (MLM) of the lymphatic vessels. \nLDT practitioners use their hands to assess and enhance overall circulation as well as determine the best alternate pathways for draining stagnant body fluid (lymph\, interstitial\, synovial fluid\, etc…). Therapists work with flat hands\, using all the fingers to simulate gentle\, specific wave-like movements. \nThese subtle manual maneuvers activate lymph and interstitial fluid circulation as well as stimulate the functioning of the immune and parasympathetic nervous systems. \nInstructor Bio \nRobin Devine\, RMT\, CLT\, LDT\, is a 2200 hour Massage Therapist who specializes in Lymphatic Drainage\, Lymphedema Therapy\, Relaxation & Therapeutic Massage\, Brain Therapy\, Brain Reflex Therapy\, and Craniosacral Therapy. \nRobin traveled to Thailand in 2005 and trained in Thai Massage techniques. While there\, she developed an intense desire to explore non-traditional forms of Massage Therapy\, and the vital importance of overall body wellness. Thanks to this insight\, Robin has built on her foundational training\, and has expanded her therapeutic tools to include Lymphatic Drainage Therapy\, Brain Therapy and Brain Reflex Therapy with the Chikly Health Institute\, as well as Craniosacral Therapy through the Upledger institute. She is currently only 1 of 10 therapists in the City of Calgary who have trained to the advanced level of Lymphatic Drainage as well as a Certified Lymphedema Therapist\, enjoying working with more complex cases of lymphatic instability.  She is a fully certified Complex Decongestive Therapist and Certified Lymphedema Therapy. \nThroughout her career\, she has worked in a massage therapy clinic\, chiropractic clinic\, as a mobile therapist in Calgary\, as well as working from home for many years. She has also been an assistant instructor for the Upledger Institute/Chikly Institute for the Lymphatic Drainage Therapy courses since 2008\, traveling all over North America and\, recently\, to Australia\, Singapore and Malaysia. She has taught with MH Vicars School of Massage Therapy in Calgary for 3 years for both their full  first and second year curriculums\, as well as with Mount Royal University teaching in their 2200 hour diploma program both in their classrooms and in their practicum clinic. Presented by Sheryl Hamilton. Time – 8:00am – 5:00pm. Bundle and save on all 3 days! \n\nMore Information \nAs manual therapists\, we often come across clients who are suffering from the symptoms associated with compressed innervation.  Sciatica\, carpal tunnel syndrome\, and thoracic outlet syndrome are a few of the pathologies that we are confronted with almost on a daily basis that involve nerve compression.  It can be tough to determine a safe\, gentle\, and effective treatment approach for these cases that does not exacerbate symptoms.\n\nThis approach\, developed by instructor Sheryl Hamilton after 25 years of professional experience as an RMT and neurology instructor\, will give you the tools you need to provide release for any pathology that includes a component of neural compression.  It is non-invasive\, safe\, and easy to apply and relies on gentle fascial decompression to support affected nerves.  The main nerves of the brachial plexus and sacral plexus will be addressed\, but the treatment approach can be applied to any peripheral nerve.\n\nNeural decompression also supports general health of the extremities which can be useful in the recovery from any musculoskeletal concern. This can become a very powerful\, widely applicable tool in the hands of a well-trained manual therapist.\n\n\nOrthopedic Assessment: 14 CEC’s Member Price: $450\, Non-Member Price: $550. Sunday & Monday\, September 22 & 23\, 2024. Presented by Lois Pohlod with OrthoCanada. Time – 8:00am – 4:30pm. \n\nMore Information \nAbout the K-Taping® PRO course\n\nK-Taping Pro is a two-day (16 hour) course that teaches the basic functions and effects of K-Taping Therapy. It covers applications for muscle\, ligament\, functional\, and fascia corrections\, as well as introducing lymphatic correction techniques. In this course\, you’ll learn to apply combination techniques for a variety of conditions\, from impingement syndrome to plantar fasciitis. Participants will also receive a course manual\, practice tape\, and a certificate upon completion.\n\nIn the K-Taping Pro course students are taught four application techniques\n\n\nMuscle Techniques: Functional disorders in the muscles often cause an imbalance between agonists and antagonists. Muscle taping techniques are used to correct these imbalances. They allow the muscle to return to its normal function and adaptations can be made to the loading capacity and the movement patterns again.\n\nLigament Techniques: The ligament technique is used for injury and overuse of tendons and ligaments. It relieves pressure and pain\, and improves loading capacity\, resulting in quicker healing.\n\nCorrective Techniques: Are divided into functional correction and fascia correction. The functional corrective technique is used for the correction of abnormal bony positions\, such as the correction of an abnormal patella position. Functional correction requires maximal stretching of the tape before application. Fascia correction is used for adhesions within muscle fascia\, resulting in a loosening of fascia and pain reduction.\n\nLymphatic Techniques: The Lymphatic Correction techniques are used when lymphflow is disrupted. These techniques lift the skin. This increases the space between skin and subcutaneous tissue and lymph fluid is able to flow easier out of the interstitial space into the lymphatic circulation.\n\n\nIncome Tax Essentials for Therapists: 2 CEC’s Member Price: $69\, Non-Member Price: $89 Sunday\, September 22\, 2024 Instructed by Jordan Pierson with Online Wellness Institute Time – 6:00pm – 8:00pm. Should you incorporate? Assessment of the pros and cons to incorporation.\n• What is a write off and what does it do?\n• How to avoid being audited/reviewed by the CRA.\n• Why you shouldn’t be worried about moving into a higher tax bracket.\n• How to lower your tax bill. What are you allowed to write off? \n\nKinetic Chain Patterns for Complicated Shoulder Conditions: 8 CEC’s Member Price: $299\, Non-Member Price: $349 Monday\, September 23\, 2024 Instructed by James Waslaski Time – 9:00am – 6:00pm. Bundle all 3 courses and save even more! \n\nMore Information \nThere is clinical evidence that a huge contribution to shoulder pain comes from prior injuries or surgeries (scars) and musculoskeletal imbalances throughout the entire body. Fascial lines of tension can cause the entire body to compensate. Without doing Total Body Balancing Techniques and treating scars that have accumulated over a life time\, the shoulder symptoms usually return. Therapists will evaluate the stirrup spring system in the ankle responsible for “Ascending Syndromes” that work their way up into the knee\, hip\, spine\, shoulder and neck. Therapist will also correct tibial torsion patterns in the knee\, along with iliosacral torsions and resultant ascending roto-scoliosis of the lumbar spine. If uncorrected\, this can lead to ascending kyphosis of the thoracic spine\, and resultant Atlanto-occipital joint compression. After treating scars\, and doing total body balancing\, manual therapists will evaluate and treat shoulder impingent\, bursitis\, bicipital tendinosis\, rotator cuff injuries\, and thoracic outlet. The highlight of this class will be new clinical studies and techniques that will revolutionize the treatment of advanced stage adhesive capsulitis\, known as “Frozen Shoulder.” \n\nIASTM – Lower Body: 7 CEC’s Member Price: $299\, Non-Member Price: $349 Monday\, September 23\, 2024 Instructed by Dr. Nikita Vizniak Time – 8:30am – 4:30pm \nMore Information \nWe discuss IASTM\, application\, soft tissue healing principles\, review of the literature and application in practice for the Lower and Upper Body. \nLearn in a fun\, interactive environment where you can many instruments to make your treatments easier and more effective. Save your hands! \nEvidence-informed content on pain science\, anatomy\, physiology\, tissue-specific assessment\, pain referral patterns\, injury healing\, multidisciplinary person-centered best-practices\, and treatment options.
