Welcome to our very own CMMOTA Blog!!! This is the first time we have done anything like this, so please, be gentle! We thought we would start off with a simple introduction of who we are and what we are about.
The CMMOTA is a not-for-profit association that has quietly been providing a membership option for massage therapists with 2200 hours of education and manual osteopathic therapists with a minimum 1000 hours and have met the requirements laid out for a WHO Type 2 Osteopathic Therapist to join an association.
Did you know that we were formerly known as the Remedial Massage Therapists Association (RMTA) and we have been incorporated since January 1, 1977? In the summer of 2019, we wanted to be able to include the Manual Osteopathic Therapist designation as we felt that this was a natural progression for our Association. In August of that same year, we officially transitioned into the Canadian Massage & Manual Osteopathic Therapists Association (CMMOTA). We are the same amazing Association with a different name!
It’s quite the mouthful, isn’t it!! We at the office like to shorten it to the abbreviated CMMOTA (pronounced See-Moe-Tah). It makes answering the phone SO MUCH easier!!!
Our members enjoy the freedom to be able to practice all across Canada, as we are a National Association. We like to say that our members are covered from Coast to Coast to Coast.
We have transitioned from a completely volunteer driven organization to providing a fully operational office and staff that can be reached during regular business hours. This allows us to increase service to both members and prospective members and frees up our volunteers to promote the benefits of the CMMOTA to the public and future members.
Our association is active on a number of internal and external committees at the federal, provincial, and municipal levels of government. RMT membership with the CMMOTA is automatically recognized by all insurance companies, and we continue to grow our MOT insurance recognition as we are already approved by 18 different companies.
We are extremely proud to say that we are the first Association in Canada to have both Massage and Manual Osteopathic Therapists under one organization!
